#MyGardenRightNow

We have been taking part in the wildflower charity Plantlife's campaign Say No To The Mow, and leaving an area of our lawn unmown this year, to see what comes up.

Mostly we have different grasses, but there are some little wildflowers dotted around too.

At the far end of the garden there's an area which, when we moved in, was covered with rotting elderly carpet which was failing to keep down weeds. We had the carpet and weeds removed, and temporarily sowed annuals in the space. The first year we sowed mostly Phacelia, to break up the clay soil a bit, and the second year we put in a mixture. Since then we haven't had to sow anything at all because the Nigella have so successfully re-seeded themselves they have colonised the whole space.

Eventually we hope to make this area part of a meadow with fruit trees, so we will have to dig it out again (especially as several of the weeds have returned and are spreading through the Nigella) but for now we are enjoying the flowers.

Thanks to VP at Veg Plotting for hosting this MyGardenRightNow event for the Chelsea Fringe - do visit her blog to see more people (or their feet!) in their gardens right now.

Lovely to see you again Juliet :) I'm enjoying what pops up in our lawn this year as well, though it's more of an accidental decision than your conscious one. There's plenty of wildflowers, plus lots of escapees from our flower beds! Some of these are proving a good source of cut flowers ahead of those I'm actually growing for the purpose!
